I love the beach. Well that is not an unknown fact. In fact I like to be associated with the beach as much as I can, so for the medical electives we need to carry out during this holiday spent, it was something to do with the beach.
I can sense some people scratching heads already. What has the beach to do with medicine?!?!
Take a look.

Pantai means beach in "malay"
Lol!!!! Gotcha there didn't you?!?! Gotcha gotcha gotcha!!
Our 5 days attachment was indeed interesting. We started out in the radiology department, where we rightfully should be spending our whole 5 days at. Scanned through many many X-ray films, seen some rare diseases, and jump up and down whenever something familiar like "intussusception" or "ulcerative colitis" shows up on X-ray films.
And then we got greedy. Radiology is very very very boring. Very very very may I emphasize. We started asking the radiologist we're attached to if there are other departments we could go to.
But we did manage to witness an angiogram before we left the department.
And the next day, we got posted to a gastroenterologist. Mind you, it was really and eye opener. Because we already covered the GI system (gastrointestinal system) we really knew and understand what the Dr was talking about. Lol.
We witnessed an endoscope, a colonoscope, even a ERCP (go google it if you dont know). And luck has it our way, we even say a bronchoscope.
And speaking of luck, we managed to arrange ourselves to witness a surgery. A hemi-hepatectomy. 46 year old chinese male patient has vertical transmission of hepatitis B since young. His chronic hepatitis has transform into hepatocellular carcinoma involving the right lobe of the liver. And surgery is the only POSSIBLE cure he has.
We followed up this patients case from pre-surgery to post-surgery. As well as the surgery itself. (One time posting to such surgery is enough, because it took 8-9 hours, but we left after te 5th)
We were made to dress up in scrubs. and haha, camwhore did we!!
We also did ward rounds and visited the ICU.

Actually, our hospital attachment was supposed to be 6 days. But Saturday's one was cancelled (self LOL). Happening right?!?!
Now I can't wait to go to the REAL beach and have some major nice holiday!! Weeeeeee
