Of Diamonds! and Diamonds!

Diamonds are forever!!

Once again, cheerleading competition of IMU cup 08 has just commence. Being the usual kiasu captain, I booked a place for all my dear team mates to prettify and handsumfy themselves.

This is me!! ( I look so different from usual - macam no hair )

This is us abusing Liyen. One torturing her eyes, the other pulling her hair!!

This is what the guys end up doing while waiting for us girls (as usual) to prettify ourselves.

So we rush to the atrium, performed, watched other groups performed, and then waited for the results. Meanwhile, we were busy

With Korwoi, from the Bandits

Bandits started their cheerleading training since Eons eons eOns eoNs oenS ago. I remember some of them rushing to the canteen all sweaty and sticky while we were studying for out EOS 3 and you ask them "where have you been" and they go "cheerleading pratise". Gosh!! People train for half a year while my team only train for 5 weeks.

They got 3rd that night, and I think they deserved it. Hello half a year training leh!!

Last but not least, the captain of Bandits!!
WeiChin.

Lost of people say we're very alike. Like how we both look super unfriendly at first, but needs some talking to warm up to strangers, and how we take part in umpteen millions sports in IMU cup, and how we both sing back ups for other people in performances, and how we dance like we wanna murder other people. And how we both end up as cheer captains. LOL.

This is the bulk of it I guess. Oh, but there's a lot more to come. I think my next few post are all gonna be about IMU cup. Since I have no time to blog about it other days, why not make use of raya break to spill EVERYTHING OUT!! LOL. seeya! tata.

Malnourished blog

"Guys say the darn-dest things"

PBL today was quite hilarious. The male sex, when it comes to reproductive system they make a lot of speculation. And my god, it was so so so funny.

Seriously, guys never think twice before words come spilling out of their mouths. In every single aspect. (Oh well, perhaps to be fair I should state that there are SOME guys out there who are very thoughtful)

Nontheless, that's where the fun comes in. PBL wasn't as boring as usual.

My blog is currently under nourished. There's so many stuff to write about, but so little time.

Currently pictures are still pending from various different people. Oh well, there is the whole Raya holiday to feed back this blog to health!!

I have so much so much so so so much to blog about. Mostly outdated events. Will post them up REALLLL soon.

Before I end this, just wanted to add that, my previous post was not against any individual, more of the organisation as a whole. Nobodies perfect, therefore, no organisation is fool-proof. Unfortunately, the leader takes all the blame, therefore as a leader, some level of maturity is needed to be able to endure all the shit instead of launching personal attacks on people. Learn to listen, and learn to improve. Don't defend your team blindly. Most of all, learn to show respect for other people.

Of IMU CUP

So the long awaited end-of-IMU Cup came finally. Apart from feeling relieved and rejoiced, I feel also some what empty.

To be honest, I am really disappointed at the organisation of IMU cup. Somehow this IMU cup proved to be so much messier than the last one. It's never easy organising events at such a large scale, 3-cheers to Ivy Ang and team who did such a great job last year.

But this year, there were so many misunderstandings, so many miscommunications. There was no proper system to relay information to batches and team captains, no proper set of rules and guidelines to assist each individual event, worse of all, no proper definition of players who are eligible to participate.

Want to hear the cause of a major hoo haa?? It all revolves around not letting a BioMed student play for our batch, which in my opinion, totally contradict the actual meaning and sportsmanship spirit for this IMU cup. 1st of all, no student should be disallowed from playing a sport if they wish to. How is unity amongst batches, and fostering of friendship ever going to take place if some students can't participate? 2ndly, there was no proper method of disseminating the information stating that BioMed senior batch are not allowed to play, hence all the miscommunication and misunderstanding, causing my batch to lose a gold, a bronze, and a possible silver medal.

The event I was most disappointed in was, Cheerleading. Maybe it was because I am blinded by the fact that my team did not win, maybe it was because they did not give out any cash prize together with best showmanship award, or maybe because the organisation simply sucks. You tell me whether my judgement is biased or what. How can the judges change the marking scheme without informing all the captains? How can they allow prohibited props to be used when the rules clearly stated so and other teams tried to refrain from using them? And how can you reprimand a captain for booking a venue to let her teammates use for practise, when in fact other team captains did not complain simply because they did not think ahead of time at the point of booking? You tell me where is the spirit of sportmanship, the spirit of sharing and caring?!?

But apart from the lousy IMU cup organising, there were a lot of values and memories I gained through this one month. I realise that despite being separated into different batches, IMU is pretty united as a whole. I made so many new friends and crossed paths with so many nice people. Like the sem 3 girl who patched up my bleeding knee during netball, or the sem2 cheerleaders who were always fooling around with us. This is the true spirit of sportmanship, despite competing against one another, when it comes to outside games, regardless of status, we are all one big family.

Its not like me to come up with wordy wordy post, but this one has to be one, because I have so many thoughts to sound it out. The next thing I like to talk about, is Cheerleading.

I started out being the cheerleading captain last year because our sports rep Denise knows no other students who has cheerlead before. Upon accepting the task, I would say, I regretted it, honestly speaking. Its was such a chore to be in charge of 18 people (last year) who has no idea what cheerleading is about, and most of them having no prior experience in dancing, or stunting. For two months, I was struggling with my timetable, skipping lectures so that I get more time to study for summatives then, at the same time having practises which was so mentally draining by the end of the day. Thankfully I had Chloe to help me out in the entire process and my burden was shared with her. And when finally cheerleading was over and done with, I could breath. Although I had a lot of fun, and an awesome team, I swore to myself then and there, that I do not want to do this over again the next year, and was hoping someone else could take over my captain role.

But then came IMU cup 2008, and if I don't lead the team again this time, noone will. So reluctantly I started doing my job again, first step of all was to come up with the music. Big thanks to Geowin for helping me get started. Then came the toughest part, recruiting more members. Some of the old members were not eligible to join us anymore, some were too busy with SRC duties, we needed more people, so I went around asking every soul in my batch if they were interested. Soon enough, I had a team of 21 peeps, fabulous people if you ask me, and then came the troublesome part, practises.

With only one month to train these not-so-experience cheerleaders into awesome kick ass pro's, we needed to intensify our trainings, which were so tiring on me. Almost everyday my timetable starts from 8am in the morning usually with volleyball trainings, if not it will be badminton or swimming, and it ends with cheerleading at night all the way till 10pm. That's not all, there were the out of my timetable chores such as planning stunts, formations, thinking about the next practises, fitting in family time (failing miserably), and all the arguing with other captain over venue and rules. Chloe was a big help. Probably because she had more experience in cheerleading she seemed to be more professional at handling all the necessary needs.

After all the huzzle buzzle the day finally arrived. My team was AWESOME. I mean, every movement was in unity, every stunt went perfectly, everyone was smiling, energized, PERFECT. I was so sure we could get top 3. I watched back the video and beemed with pride that these people were my teammates. Little did I know they changed the score sheet at the last minute and there was nothing anyone could have done about it. Speak about reality that sucks. So many people said that we deserve better, and I speaking from experience certainly know that WE ARE BETTER.

But at the end of the day, all that matters is the memories and experiences gained along the way. I have to say I am glad I remained being the captain despite all the duties because I truly love my team.

To sum it up, I am glad IMU cup happened, despite all the setbacks, and I am glad it is finally over, though I have to admit that I'll miss it a lot. Especially cheerleading.

ps : Previously a part of this post addressed a volleyball club organising problem, since the issue may be or could be just a speculation, I apologise what I wrote about it and took it down.

Code of Ethical Behaviour for Patients

Code of Ethical Behaviour for Patients

1. Do not expect your doctor to share your discomfort
Involvement with the patient's suffering might cause him to lose valuable scientific objectivity

2. Be cheerful at all times
Your doctor leads a busy and trying life and require all the gentleness and reassurance he can get.

3. Try to suffer from the disease for which you are being treated
Remember that your doctor has a professional reputation to uphold.

4. Do not complain if the treatment fails to bring relief
You must believe that your doctor has achieved a deep insight into the true nature of your illness, which transcends any mere permanent disability you may have experienced.

5. Never ask your doctor to explain what he is doing or why is he doing it
It is presumptuous to assume that such profound matters could be explained in terms that you would understand.

6. Submit to novel experimental treatment readily
Though the surgery may not benefit you directly, the resulting research paper will surely be of widespread interest.

7. Pay you medical bills promptly and willingly
You should consider it a privilege to contribute, however modestly, to the well being of physicians and other humanitarian.

8. Do not suffer from ailments that you cannot afford
It is sheer arrogance to contract illness that are beyond your means.

9. Never reveal any of the shortcomings that have come to light in the course of treatment by your doctor
The patient-doctor relationship is a privilege one, and you have a sacred duty to protect him from exposure.

10. Never die while in your doctor's presence or under his direct care
This will only cause him needless inconvenience and embarrassment.

Toastmaster event.

So we all know one of the reason I have a packed schedule is because I have a performance at equatorial hotel on the 27th night of August. In fact I think it's probably my first time performing outside school. It was fun, we all got paid a miserable pay. I needed to dance two dances, one with the group Genesis (under Kherlik - 9 of us), and another would be with Estrella (our winning dance competition dance - 5 of us). In fact the 5 Estrella-ians are all in Genesis. *okay I am confusing you already*

So at 5 in the evening we were already at Equatorial (Chloe, Zven and me) crashing into some hotel room which is supposedly for performers. Did our make up, sprayed lots of body glitter, added more glitter on our faces, adjusted our bra straps and tubes and speggetti's and tank tops and help disaster proof other people's faces.

Chloe disaster proof-ing Shuey's face. And of course using that miraculous machine to capture our pretty moments.
Seeki-Cheeky (Lucia) and her horizontal head.
And microcytic Karumen. (Alamak her microcytic eyes is even bigger than mine in this picture *sigggh)

And I tell you, guys will always be guys. When all of us girls are busy dressing up upstairs, guess what they were doing downstairs?!!?!?!?!?!?
Binge-ing!!!! Until the whole ground nut bowl already empty and when I reach there NO MORE ground nut for me!!!

And when everyone is posing nicely for a piture to be taken.
You see a dungu head behind.

Anyways, more pictures are coming. Be a little patient. So while everyone was busy snapping pretty moments, we decided to group ourselves. into the Pans(t)ies, and the Skirties!!!!

The Pans(t)ies.
The Skirties
And the Pans(t)ies again

The ball room is really pretty. And much to Karumen's delight, its all in purple (Karumen sounds like Muruku larh)
Karu-muruku-men's favourite (purple everywhere)

And then came the heart throbbing moment whereby you needed to go on stage and DANCE. Alamak almost forgot the sole purpose I was there. But I wasn't nervous or anything, just wanted to go and have fun.
The pic whereby our hairs go haywire (Lucia found this COOL!)The picture whereby Zven made Kamurukumen jealous of me (neh neh ni puu puu) *go see her blog and you know why*clicks*

Skirts flying!!

And the pic I loike the most. Cos our bodies all so perky!!

So finish dancing. And we all waited for food to serve. Gobbled down sharksfin soup like nobody's business. Hungry weiiiiiii, can save the glam-ness after we change into something formal, stomach more important.

Me and Chloe-Doey-Shorty-Chubby (new nick name) happily anticipating the arrival of food

Before you even knew it, Estrella was up for dancing again. Noone took any pics of Estrella dancing, which was so sad. I'll load up the video's a little later after I get them from Karumen.
Chloe and Me with Estrella's masks
More mask play
Not Estrella pun want to act like an Estrella
Masky Tjun Hoe

Masky tables

And then finally, we get to change into something prettier. Dresses. Now we look more like we're attending a function. Wearing khakis and tube top amongst all the maturely dresses adults in shawls and big skirts and sequinned shoes really feels out of place.
With the 2 girls, noisy and microcytic

With the pink little shorty-chubby princess now
With Duh-Knees this time

and one more time with the new best friend

So there goes, the night was quite amazing larhh. I mean I did have fun. LOL. More pictures will be up, as soon as I can get those in Denise's camera. Wilkinson Lilian Rachel and Elaine was there too, but pictures on them with me is in another camera. Oh well, patient a bit la, maybe if I'm lucky can put video's up too.

Lastly, ESTRELLA
