Hospitals

Sorry for the absense. In fact I was away on holiday these few days. Will blog about that very much later. As you know, collection of pictures is always a hassle.

I love the beach. Well that is not an unknown fact. In fact I like to be associated with the beach as much as I can, so for the medical electives we need to carry out during this holiday spent, it was something to do with the beach.

I can sense some people scratching heads already. What has the beach to do with medicine?!?!

Take a look.
Pantai means beach in "malay"

Lol!!!! Gotcha there didn't you?!?! Gotcha gotcha gotcha!!

Our 5 days attachment was indeed interesting. We started out in the radiology department, where we rightfully should be spending our whole 5 days at. Scanned through many many X-ray films, seen some rare diseases, and jump up and down whenever something familiar like "intussusception" or "ulcerative colitis" shows up on X-ray films.

And then we got greedy. Radiology is very very very boring. Very very very may I emphasize. We started asking the radiologist we're attached to if there are other departments we could go to.

But we did manage to witness an angiogram before we left the department.

And the next day, we got posted to a gastroenterologist. Mind you, it was really and eye opener. Because we already covered the GI system (gastrointestinal system) we really knew and understand what the Dr was talking about. Lol.

We witnessed an endoscope, a colonoscope, even a ERCP (go google it if you dont know). And luck has it our way, we even say a bronchoscope.

And speaking of luck, we managed to arrange ourselves to witness a surgery. A hemi-hepatectomy. 46 year old chinese male patient has vertical transmission of hepatitis B since young. His chronic hepatitis has transform into hepatocellular carcinoma involving the right lobe of the liver. And surgery is the only POSSIBLE cure he has.

We followed up this patients case from pre-surgery to post-surgery. As well as the surgery itself. (One time posting to such surgery is enough, because it took 8-9 hours, but we left after te 5th)

We were made to dress up in scrubs. and haha, camwhore did we!!

We also did ward rounds and visited the ICU. We saw a patient who has undergone Whipple's procedure, a rectal bleed patient, and a very stressed haematologist. We deduced that we never ever want to be one. Nor a respiratory physician. Nor a surgeon (Ten hours in surgery, I can die weiii)

Actually, our hospital attachment was supposed to be 6 days. But Saturday's one was cancelled (self LOL). Happening right?!?!

Now I can't wait to go to the REAL beach and have some major nice holiday!! Weeeeeee

swisssy gardenn

Daddy planned a short family getaway for some relaxation on his part. And some family-bonding as well, this time, it was at Swiss Garden resort, Lumut.

To be honest, I didn't find this trip as exciting as Pangkor, but a holiday is a holiday, meant for enjoying yourself regardless. Stress-free, studies-free, work-free, oh.. and make-up-free too (pardon my fugly make-up-less pictures)

And the best part was, this time we were all treated to a one hour spa massage.

Of course I couldn't take pictures of my undergoing the spa massage cos that would be posting half naked pictures of me, so pictures of the place will do.

It's under Samsara of course. Samsara spa they call it. Apparently they have branches in Penang, Kuantan and some other states in which I am not too certain of.

Anyways, the lobby of the hotel serve free drinks to all their guest, but be forewarned that the drinks aren't exactly the nicest drinks on earth.

Pelaga juice was extremely yucky, taste like grass, those rottened grass. But my parents say they kick ass, I think their taste buds needs examining. Pandan tea was ok ok. At least not grass-like-tasting.

No complains about complimentary stuff, it's your choice whether to be greedy or not. Haha.

As I am a little lazy to be descriptive about this trip I'll just overload the post with pictures and pictures!!

Friends are diamonds are forever

I never knew it was so tough to do up a cheerleading song. Honestly!!!

I spent like, 4 hours, locked up and cooped up and rooted to one small room, staring at the laptop screen for what seemed like a gazillion years, looking at funny wavy pattern running up down left right of the entire screen, and guess what.

ONLY 40 SECONDS OF THE CORE WAS DONE.

Forty miserable seconds. And it was not very satisfying either, cos either the song was too fast, too slow, or you mistakenly press a button and the program get screwed and you get odd beats messing up the entire sequence. G.R.O.A.N

And then you still need to add in sound effects, like uber a lot of sound effects. And then record voices to add them in. Gosh someone tell me why am I captain again?!?! (scornfully looks at Denise Chew)

Plus songs nowadays are so solemn, or retro-ey, or tech-ny, or trance-cey. I need CHEERFUL songs. *its CHEERleading anyways* Where on earth do people find CHEERFUL songs?!?! Suggestions?!??!

Thankfully Geowin is some pro at music mixing. Else I would just use back last year song (Harh! speak about creativity)

btw : the song starts with "Diamonds are Foreverrrrrrrrrrr......"

Random pictures I want to put up on the blog but can't find an excuse to do so.

The day we got our results

Food I crave for

And a very vulgar car

Nails again

Because I know you all missed my nail stories. But first let me rant things off my chest. Exams are such nail ruiners. My finger nails are still at such obscenely short length I can't paint them nicely. EEEEESSHH... And hospital attachment is next week which means I gotta snip them off AGAIN!! Sigh... But anyway, here's something simple. Just use those stickers and stick stick stick AND ITS OPI LAQUER YOU SEEING. OPI!!!!! =D

In dire need of looking pretty

I have this sudden urge of dressing up in a nice beautiful gown and splatting on 5 inches thick make up and go some where glam and stylo.

But you tell me where on earth in Malaysia is glam and stylo that requires dressing up besides the MPO???

You think people would be able to accept if I walked the aisle of One Utama looking like I am about to attend a prom??

*slaps slaps*

I dream too much sometimes. Really.

Anyways, I had a sisterly berbonding session with the sister last Sunday. It was supposedly a sister-ly swimming together to lose fats and then go for jacuzzi to relax session. But daddy and mommy tagged along in the end, making out swimming session a daddy teach sister to swim while I syiok sendiri while mommy act as tai-tai at the side.

But the jacuzzi was sisterly berbonding session alright.

If only I own a jacuzzi I could bring all those flower petals scented oils and yada yada's I could make my own spa.

And guess what I did after a whole morning of pampering relaxing swimming and jacuzzi-ing???

I slept the whole afternoon.

LoL.

fun fair

I am reliving childhood. The last time I've been to a Non-genting-non-sunway fun fair, I was like, eight years old?? Never would have thought one would arrive at Bukit Jalil just directly in front of my university.

And the worse part is, the fun fair started way before the commence of my exams. So every miserable night I journey home with envious eyes (like those doggies of looking out of the window kind) staring at those bright lights as the car zooms pass it. My heart will go D-A-Y-U-M-N.

But alas, exams came and went, and the fun fair is still there *triple hooray*

Sneak peek of the ferris wheel.

This fun fair is more of like a all rides kind of fun fair, no food, no cotton candies, no ice-cream cones, no ices, and much to my disappointment, no stilt walking clowns. (not that I fancy clowns anyway)

Start it off with a mild ride first. And the mildest of all --- Ferris wheel!!!!!
The view medial to the ferris wheel cabin

The view lateral from the cabin

And I spotted - The sports complex!!!

Honestly, being the mildest ride, it was also the longest ride. The thingi just kept turning round and round and round and round until you start thinking "Can I get off this thing ALREADY??"

And for the adventurous, you should try the vortex. That thing is so blardy high I cant even get a proper picture of it. And according to William (sem5) this little machine puts Space shot in Genting to shame.

The two with the euphoric look after that nasty ride. At that moment I bet you any doctor would have died of shock if they knew the amount of adrenaline running through their blood.

And how the hell did William appear at the fun fair? It's pure coincidence. I was happily strotting to the main entrance, when I saw the silhouette of a very familiar figure. Lo and Behold....

Jolene!!!! (naturally William would be there). I tell you the amount of screaming produced by our mouths when we first saw each other at the entrance could easily deafened anyone.

The carnival was small, and a tad bit boring. But the rides are a little fresher and better. Despise the chicken and ball-less-ness in me, I was dragged on a few other rides which could have made my heart stopped. It was fun nontheless. =)

Just for fun's purpose. I mean, we all need to be in touch with all our knowledge right right right???

**FYI : One component of our exam papers is to describe gross pictures of various diseased organs and come out with a differential diagnosis.

Like this.

So, describe the lesion seen.
My friends all had funny answers. Well marginated, brownish black-necrotic areas, ulceration present, pseudo-polyps, rough appearance. It's could very well be a liver, or a fraction of a lung.

Differential diagnosis : Liver cirrhosis, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease.

We medical students can relate to anything. Even PORK chop. (This is Ding Tai Fung's famous porkchop fried rice btw, in Gardens, we had our post-eos dinner there.)

Karaoke

Turns out holidays are much more entertaining than I thought it would ever be. I had fun so far, and the plans are pouring in. So many things to do, yet so little time. and SO LITTLE MONEY!!!!

Going out is always about spending money right? B.R.O.K.E

Before I start on how my last outing turned out to be, I want to rant a little. I PASSED MY EXAMS!!!!!!!! *omg I can't believe it I am so proud*

Honestly, I had a really really really bad scared this morning. Just to avoid seeing and meeting all the smartie pants in uni, I went to uni 2 and a half hours late, hoping I could avoid the crowd. And when I was standing right in front of the Academic Affair Department, I was handed a slip with a FREAKING ENVELOPED ATTACHED TO IT BEHIND!!! (an extra envelope usually means you fail your exams because the envelope will consist the timetable of remedial classes and resit timing). I tell you, I nearly felt how a failure would feel almost instantly!!! Hopes all crashing and everything. Mind you it was NOT a nice feeling at all.

Then I slowly peeled open the result slip, and saw a bold "P" beside both columns for both papers. My oh my, my heart could've jumped out of my mediastinum and pump on the floor. How relieved was I. Man! Turns out the extra envelope was to show I passed moral studies!! GOSH GOSH GOSH!!

Damn IMU admin, scaring people like that.

Okay. Back to the main topic. It's been a gazillion year since I last STEP into a karaoke room. I miss screaming my lungs out. Oh the Stress-relieving-ness.

See how serenating it is to indulge in a little singing whereby noone is around to judge how you sound because everyone sounds terrible?!?!

And that's little jelly butt (Luyi) by the karaoke screen.

Honestly, it's not all about singing. It's all about catching up and keeping in touch with friends. The last time I saw them was about a month ago, in which I barely spend more than half an hour with them because I was too busy zooming around entertaining guests during my birthday. This time round it's real catching up!!

The girls

Lol, and there's always camwhoring to do whenever you get bored. For instant, when a song your friends pick pops out, but you have no idea how it goes because you have never heard of it before (happens a lot of times because I am super outdated in chinese songs). Make cheeky faces and POSE FOR THE CAMERA!!!Ryan getting a little heated up singing *pointing the finger*

Ryan for you *clubbing freak*

And then things might get heated up a little on rare occasions you might even get to see people doing this!!

Later on, it was too early to head home, not in time for lunch nor dinner, so we just slack around Paddington's House of Pancakes to have a little chat.

Mind you, our little chat is a real BIG ONE. Chatted for so long it lasted for easily 3-4 hours??? *lost track of time then*

Paddington's Hot Choc with Marchmallow and Cappucino

And pancakes of course

It's great catching up with everyone. Though I wish more people came, but it was a weekday and not everyone's on holiday. So oh well, there's always next time I guess. Till then

Rant time : I hate being told what to do. I hate always being on precaution mode. Isn't loving someone trusting him completely?? Then why do people keep telling me things that make me do so otherwise?!?!?!
