Kundasang

Not many people has heard of this place, but here I present you with "Kundasang" (the lil red dot on the map)

We decided that Sandakan alone isn't enough to fulfill the worthiness of our air tickets, so Elaine's mom arranged a trip for us to Kundasang, a hilly place with cool chilling air and beautiful hill side scenery.

She booked a chalet like-resort for us to stay one night in, and also arranged a driver to bring us there and back. My oh my, the ride there was about 5 hours.

FIVE HOURS IN AN MPV IS A KILLER!!!

Most of them got car sick (especially those sitting at the back). Lilian and Elaine were having a cozy time fondling with each other's feet as they cross exchange them to lie down horizontally at the back seat. Lilian being a very shy camera person
And Elaine posing. Both of them very comfy behind.

Did I mention 5 hours being cramped up is such a killer? Geowin is so lucky to get the front seat. And thank GOD I've got an Ipod to listen to.

Our resort is B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L. -fullstop-

There really isn't much to describe about. It is just like any other chalet-resort. 3 rooms, 3 bathrooms, a living room, kitchen, a porch, and a veranda.

Only difference is that we get really cute visitors from time to time. *will talk about it later*
Front view of our chalet. With the MPV parked outside
The Kampong-ish view from out chalet. Very serenading.
A little porch outside

Minutes after arriving at our chalet, we drove out to buy ingredients for a BBQ at night. Went to a small town nearby called Ranau where there is a night market to purchase raw meat, fish balls and all the BBQ necessities. Ranau's night market is really unique. It isn't like the usual night markets we have here in KL. Most of the stalls sell vegetables and they don't sell Sweet potatoes or Corn (because we were searching for those and couldn't find it anywhere)

And BBQ started with our 2 chefs warming the stove, and doing all the cooking.

While the girls ----- Camwhored. =)

Food food food!!!

As usual, we over bought the chicken wings, just like in Langkawi. Nontheless we managed to finish off most of the other food. So give a good guess what's for breakfast the next morning?

Chicken wings.
Presenting to you a very satisfied Rachel with her successful effort of reheating chicken wings for breakfast.

As for out very cute visitors that appear throughout our stay there. I bring youMr cow inspired dog
And Labrador inspired dog

These dogs are so so so CUTE!! and very tame too. We fed them with leftover chicken bones and sausages and they just keep coming. Labrador inspired dog even let us touch him! Awww.

Right. The last and final post of Sandakan will be up soon. Mark my words. I gotta run now. Adios!

What to do in Sandakan

Everybody asked me : " What's there to do in Sandakan?"

The main answer would be --- EAT

There's a whole
WikiPage on Sandakan. And what is there to be done there.

Here's what I did. Well apart from eating, in which I have already told you
here.

We made a fool out of ourselves whenever we can. Being monkeysdonkeysbananas. Camwhoring is an integrate skill. And making fools do foolish stuff in front of the camera? -- totally possible. Well, if you are a good observer, you'll realize that behind all the monkeysdonkeysbananas, there is actually a marvelous scenery behind. Very beautiful. This place is actually the Puu Jih Shih Temple.

"Built and decorated in 1987 at a cost of around US dollar 2 million, the temple is a blaze of red and gold, with writhing dragons, gilded Buddhas, hundreds of gleaming lamps and the fragrances of burning incense"

The view there is really breathtaking. It shows the coastal line of Sandakan, the small town buildings, and an endless stretch of the sea ( you know how much of a sea person I am).

Man, I so wanna go back there again!! LIKE NOW!!!

But I guess life just had to go on.

We also visited the orang utan sanctuary. also known as sepilok. Man, we were kind of unlucky because only ONE orang utan showed up. and A WHOLE SWARM OF MONKEYS!! but only one orang utan.

One orang utan. After all the waiting and the sweat and getting scolded by some fussy caucasian for being too noisy.

Well, we also went to see this!!
Scary gruesome dirty muddy creatures. I never fancied crocodiles. Look at their eyes!! They have this I-So-Wanna-Eat-You-Look!!

But it was an eye opening experience. Elaine also had a lot of fun torturing and scaring us.

There crocodile performance they have was by far the LAME-est animal show I have ever seen. They have performance like,

dancing with the crocodile --> in which they carry the crocodile on their back *small ones of course* and the TRAINERS DANCE, with the crocodiles stagnant on their backs.

posing with crocodile --> the trainers lie on the crocodile's back and strike a peace sign.

hugging crocodile --> which means hugging the crocodile

only semi interesting part was the put-hand-in-crocodile's-mouth.

There were other animals there too. Such as porcupines, turkeys, ostriches.
And also catfishes. Elaine poured an entire pack of fish food into the catfish pond at a go, making all the catfish dashed to one small spot in the pond for food, splatting all the dirty muddy water out. *thanks a lot*

Time's running out. My nerd time has arrived. Will update a lil more on the trip later.

Rainy weather

"Hours pass, and she still counts the minutes
That I am not there, I swear I didn't mean
For it to feel like this
Like every inch of me is bruised, bruised
And don't fly fast. Oh, pilot can you help me?
Can you make this last? This plane is all I got
So keep it steady, now
Cause every inch you see is bruised"

It rained today when I was driving home. I haven't drove in the rain for a very long time now. It was such a nice feeling, despise the traffic jam and all the congestions caused, since I wasn't rushing off to anywhere, I just didn't want to reach home so soon, where all the stress and studying will begin again.

It took me one hour to reach home. Normally I would be pissed of my arse, cursing and whining about it, but today, in the car, just me and my Ipod playing (song above is Bruised by Jack's Mannequin), together with Becky, Flush, Itsy, and Cherry, I felt some sort of serenity.

The rain was refreshing. I noticed how beautiful the raindrops on my car screen made the lightings of road become. Somewhat abstract. I even took pictures.

Look how pretty they are. Neon coloured lights flashing away.

Ps : Lunch today was good. We should do this more often.

Sandakan COP and more more more

The whole purpose of us going to Sandakan was to do our Community Oriented Project (COP). The story behind "why Sandakan" is so simple. The group of us brats want to ber-holiday while COP-ing, and use this perfect opportunity to escape to the land of Borneo. Plus, Elaine suggested it. =)

So, we decided to visit a few homes in Sandakan to fulfill our COP requirement, and use the remaining stay there for play play and play. And play did we. But that's a story for another day. (alamak this perempuan postpone again!!)

1st up was a visit to Sri Harapan old folks home. To be honest, none of us knew the name until we needed to rush our COP report. (whereby we desperately call Elaine for details from Sandakan). It was just like any normal visit to any home. Greet the caretaker, tour the place, chat with the residents, be Santa Claus for the day in distributing goodies.Elaine is such a natural at talking to old folks. She loves being with them and loves seeing them happy, and she walks around like she belongs there. Confidently. The residents just so love her.
Say cheese for the camera. (look how happy the malay women is)

I am not yet a doctor

Mini side track - Man you really can't blame a girl when she is so obsessed with nails. My oh my!! I really don't know why I have this sudden nail craze!!
Okay, back to our main topic of the day. Our supposedly 3 days of COP was shorten to 2 days. (due to sheer laziness) And so for the 2nd day we headed to Sabah Cheshire Home, a home for patients with mental illness and incapability to take care of themselves.

We got quite a scare upon arrival. We did not expect their behaviors to be so erratic and unpredictable. Although under medication, some of them still act very very strangely, and the bulk of us were very uncomfortable being among them.

But we needed to get used to the situation. So we gritted our teeths and went through it. It wasn't so bad. After getting used to them, they can be very adorable, and loving too. =)We did assisted them in nail cutting, and surprisingly they sat very still for us to cut their nails. Only disgusting part is that we need to cut their feet nails as well, thank god we have gloves.
We danced with them as well. Some of them really have dancing talent. And have some moves and grooves of their own.Feeding was a chore indeed. Especially Lilian's. She had to feed a patient that is in a straight jacket. Which mean she literally had to force the food down his mouth.

That's about all we had for COP. I will post about the holiday-ing part next okay.

Xoxo!!

Outdated Sandakan Post

I know I am super outdated. Pardon the lazy genes in me in which is totally un-get-rid-able.

As for an outdated post, nothing beat being more outdated than blogging about Sandakan.

Hehe, it's only been a month (gosh how time flies) so better late than never right?

Sandakan is the second-largest city in the state of Sabah, East Malaysia, on the north-eastern coast of Borneo. On the map, it looks like this, there you go, sitting right at the eyes of the doggie!!
Lo and behold, the land of the doggie's eye!! (* I am lame*)

It is basically a very peaceful small town, in which some might claim boring, but I should say I really enjoyed every bit of my time there, because it was very relaxing and easy go lucky.

We lodged at Elaine's house in which her mom is a very very very generous and kind host, making sure we were all well fed and comfortable.

To slowly tell you bit by bit of my Sandakan trip will definately put you off to sleep in a jiffy. So I will kindly omit unnecessary information and just write up about what I found interesting (It's an excuse for being lazy actually).

Sandakan is all about FOOD. yes yes. FOod FooD and fOoD. Most importantly of all, SEAFOOD. (Nowander mom said I looked fatter when I got home).

We had seafood almost every meal, tried pepperish bak kut teh, tried kolo mee Sandakan style, had load and loads of "ling mong ping" ice lemonade, and well, of this as well..
Spot the queen of alcohol behind

There were lots of food there in which you can never find in west malaysia. Yummy food. Like these.
Little Tree Vege "shi zhai choy"
Sand White "Sa Bak"
Some snail thingi

It's really a seafood heaven in there. And of course, a hell of cholesterol.

We also had seafood steamboat there on our very 1st day. In which is another SKY HIGH CHOLESTEROL meal. (major detox needed).
Despite the nothing-to-do-ness in the small peaceful town, we had loads of fun. Because we were so good at doing nothing. I mean, we were so good at seeking for our own entertainment.
Sing karaoke
All kao tao to the pro
Cards sessions (and the beer too)
Drool and oogledoogledoodle at nice cars (which belongs to Elaine's dad btw)

And bowling too. Bowling in Sandakan is really high tech I tell you. Instead of automatically computerising your score, they give you a sheet of paper and a pencil to manually tabulate the points. High tech betul. Thankfully Kher Lik knew about score keeping, esle we'll be throwing balls for nothing.

Elaine, being a nice friendly host, made us dinner one night. (more food food food)

Yepz, she was the cook for the night.
And we just fooled around.

What more to do in Sandakan?? Well, of course a visit to all the main tourist attractions!! In which is going to appear soon in this blog.

Yes yes, reallllllllll soon, because I am getting sleepy now. =)

Adios. Till then.
